This year it’s been all about the bardot tops and dresses, as well as the whole wearing-your-workout-gear-out thing but how do you know how to wear these trends yourself and incorporate them into your everyday wardrobe?
Trying out trends is definitely worth it to find out what you like and what suits you, and the idea of looking like you’re only following what’s in shouldn’t deter you because experimenting with the clothes you wear can bring out a newfound confidence in you and shake up your dress sense when you feel like you’re in a style rut.
Let me just express how much I love the athleisure trend. Wearing comfy gym leggings all day long and still looking ~on trend~ is my kinda thing. I do wear my Nike leggings to the gym but I’ll also happily wear them during the day whether it’s to town, to college or to get a coffee.
As for the off the shoulder trend, it’s fun and feminine and pretty. It brings something to an outfit without being too OTT. Instead of wearing a plain t shirt, a bardot top instantly makes you look stylish even when it’s all one plain colour.
By mixing the two together, there’s the perfect balance of girly and casual in an outfit and makes you look off-duty model effortless.
I wanted to get myself a pair of leggings that I could wear to the gym and also wear out in the day to be comfy when I didn’t want to wear jeans. Workout leggings also seem like a better option over normal black leggings that can go see through. #struggles. I also got gym trainers because wearing my white leather Converse was becoming more and more impractical, and also made them get more and more dirty. Having black Nike leggings and black Nike trainers makes the outfit look more put together and looks stylish because you haven’t just thrown together a random pair of fluorescent leggings and navy trainers that don’t go together at all. I wear the leggings all the time, with or without the matchy matchy trainers, and I’m obsessed. They bring the athleisure look to any outfit, not just this one. They work with oversized tops and tight, cropped ones and they’re just way more bearable to wear all day long instead of jeans.
I’ve been loving the look of off the shoulder tops, especially loose, flowy ones like this. They’re perfect for Summer and look so cute. I’m all for flashing a cheeky bit of shoulder and collarbone. Plus the colour of this is lovely, I don’t think I’ve ever owned an item of clothing in this shade before, and it stops me sticking to the black, white and grey tones 24/7. It also matches the colour of the socks I wore here, more of that co ordination going on in the outfit.
Have you tried out the athleisure wear or off the shoulder trends? How have you been styling them up?
